Society Without
Barriers - Côte d'Ivoire (SWB-CI) is an initiative of Mr. Yede Adama SANOGO, an
Ivoirian deaf activist who is deeply involved in the promotion of the
rights of People with Disabilities in Côte d'Ivoire.
Indeed, Mr. Yede
Adama SANOGO has successfully completed a training program from August 15th
to September 21 th, 2008 in Tokyo (Japan) and Bangkok (Thailand) on
the issue of promoting the rights of persons with disabilities. The training
was organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in
collaboration with DPI-Japan and DPI-AP in the setting of the program
"Mainstreaming and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in Africa
program". The theme of this training was: "Anti-discrimination and Advocacy in
relationship with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
(CRPD)".
After this
training, he made a diagnosis of the situation of People with Disabilities in
Côte d'Ivoire. This diagnosis led to the development of an action plan which
aims to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Côte d'Ivoire. The
plan revolves around an idea: contribute to build a barrier-free society. In other words: to build an inclusive
society. Some people espoused his idea and
contribute to improve the initial action plan. So SWB-CI was created on March 7th, 2009 by a group of ten (10) persons, including eight (08) persons with
disabilities. It is a Non Profit Organization.
